The San Diego Chargers landed in “America’s Finest City” just in time to start the 1961 season and stayed until early 2017. Though the Chargers now play in Los Angeles, their long, rich history in S.D. will live on forever. Offered here are a pair of game used helmets from the Chargers that, based on their facemask designs, were likely worn by linebackers.

The first blue helmet, stamped “Riddell” on the front, is a 1970’s era pro model that boasts a yellow facemask and shows moderate wear with the team’s iconic lightning bolt yellow decals outlined in blue and white stretched across either side. It’s protective inside padding is stamped “7” and its original chin strap remains intact.

The second Riddell helmet is a darker shade of blue with a matching color facemask that reveals heavy use with paint transfers and scuff marks throughout the crown and sides. Used between the 1988 and ’91 seasons, it sports much more protective padding on the inside than its counterpart. The helmet includes the trademark lightning bolt decals on either side, this time white bolts outlined in blue and yellow. The name “CHARGERS” is fastened across the front of the helmet right above the facemask. Its original white Riddell chinstrap remains intact.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
