This lot includes a pair of gold-washed Sterling Silver hallmarked horse-racing winners’ plates awarded in 1987 and 1988, respectively. The first went to “Family Style,” which won the La Brea Stakes Seven Furlongs race on January 3, 1987, at Santa Anita Park. The beautifully designed plate (624 grams), which measures 10 inches across and 10” from top to bottom, includes markings with all the relevant race information and on the center is engraved with the following text: “WON BY FAMILY STYLE, EUGENE V. KLEIN, OWNER, D. WAYNE LUCAS, TRAINER, GARY STEVENS, JOCKEY - TIME 1:22:3.”
The second sterling silver plate (648g) was awarded to “Winning Colors” for winning the La Centinela Stakes One-Mile Race on Jan. 20, 1988, at Santa Anita Park. The plate, which stretches 10 inches across and 10 inches from top to bottom, includes the pertinent race information and is engraved on the center with the following text: “WON BY WINNING COLORS, EUGENE V. KLEIN, OWNER, D. WAYNE LUCAS, TRAINER, GARY STEVENS, JOCKEY – TIME 1:36:3.”
