This pair of baseballs have been signed by the two participants of the 1940 World Series - the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers. The Reds boasted an all-star pitching staff consisting of Bucky Walters, Paul Derringer and Johnny “Double No-Hitter” Vander Meer with Junior Thompson and Joe Beggs out of the bullpen. The Tigers lineup featured three Hall of Fame sluggers: Hank Greenberg, Earl Averill and Charlie Gehringer with heavy hitters Rudy York, Pete Fox and Barney McCosky backing them up.

21 members of the World Champion Cincinnati Reds have signed an unknown manufacturer’s ball including Hall of Famer Ernie Lombardi plus Johnny Vander Meer, Paul Derringer, Bucky Walters, Frank McCormick, Bill Werber, Morrie Arnovich, Elmer Riddle, Eddie Joost, Harry Craft, Milt Shoffner, Jim Turner, Mike McCormick, Lew Riggs, Joe Beggs, Bill Baker, Gene Thompson, Jimmie Ripple, Lonnie Frey and Bill Myers. The Bill McKechnie has been deemed a clubhouse signature. The ball shows some wear and toning to the surface but the black fountain pen signatures are all legible. Comes with a lidless Spalding ball box.

22 of the AL champion Tigers have signed the Spalding Official National League Ball including Hall of Famers Hank Greenberg, Earl Averill and Charlie Gehringer plus Buck Newsom, Rudy York, Johnny Gorsica, Billy Sullivan (2), Archie McKain, Tommy Bridges, Pete Fox, Tuck Stainback, Birdie Tebbetts, Al Benton, Fred Hutchinson, Frank Croucher, Floyd Giebell, Clay Smith, Bruce Campbell, Barney McCosky, coaches Merv Shea and Bing Miller, and manager Del Baker.
