At a time when New York City's Madison Square Garden was the epicenter of the boxing world, brothers Chris and Angelo Dundee conspired to bring some of the sports smoke-filled ambiance and spotlight south to Miami Beach, Florida. With legendary promoter Chris Dundee opening the gym with his brother Angelo in the early 1950's, it would become a magnet for both bona fide pugilistic talent and the broader world of entertainment celebrities. When a young Cassius Clay came there to train after winning his gold medal at the Rome Olympics in 1960, the lore and legend of the 5th Street Gym was in full swing. Ultimately, everybody from the Beatles, Malcolm X, Frank Sinatra and Sylvester Stallone to virtually all of the great boxing names of the postwar era would find their way to South Beach. The striking terry cloth robe offered here is in remarkable condition, showing just enough wear to substantiate its narrative of being word by Muhammad Ali without so much as betraying any significant blemishes or concerns about overall condition. The Everlast tag is in good condition on the front left breast; the Muhammad Ali in black embroidered letters on the back is similarly problem free and without issue.

Comes with Letter of Authenticity from Angelo Dundee on his personal letterhead.
