The late Dennis Johnson was a clutch performer for both the Seattle SuperSonics as well as the Boston Celtics. A point guard who had a knack for finding open teammates, Johnson, a five-time All-Star and one of the league’s top defensive guards, was part of Boston’s 1980’s dynasty when he teamed with fellow Hall of Famers Larry Bird, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale. He spent 14 seasons in the league and retired after the 1989-90 campaign. He played on title teams with the Celtics in 1984 and 1986 and with Seattle in 1979, when he was NBA Finals MVP. He died in 2007 at the age of 52 and was inducted posthumously into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame three years later.

This lot features Johnson’s mid-1980’s Boston Celtics game worn road jersey. The green jersey reads “CELTICS” across the front in white tackle twill with his uniform number “3” position below the team name. The left front tail is sporting a “Sand-Knit” manufacturer’s tag [size 44]. Above that is a sewn-in “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Boston Celtics” swatch tag. The dual tag style is common as exhibited on similar Celtics jerseys that were sold during the '86 season, when the Celtics defeated the Houston Rockets in six games to win their 16th NBA title. The back of the jersey features his last name – “JOHNSON” – arched in white tackle twill across the shoulder blades with his number “3” right below it in similar tackle twill fashion. Overall the jersey shows solid wear with noticeable fraying of the letters and number on the front.
