By 1967, Mickey Mantle's glory days were behind him. Now a first baseman, he was named to the All-Star team for the 15th year, more for his lifetime achievements, as he only hit .245 and his wheels were gone. But Mantle could still give the ball a ride. On May 17, 1967, at Yankee Stadium against Steve Hargan of the Cleveland Indians, he hit this ball for his 501st homer. For the season he would slug a total of 22 homers in 440 at bats and, when his career ended after that 1968 season, he would finish with a career total of 536 round trippers. Today Mantle is number #13 on the all-time home run list, one of 23 players to exceed 500 home runs in his career and the switch hitter with the most homers. Mantle has written on this ball "Best Wishes On 501, Your Pal, Mickey Mantle" and dated by Mantle "5/17/67." Ball is toned and soiled, the faded, but fully legible inscription and signature rate 3-4/10. LOA from PSA/DNA.
