The great home run race of 1961 featured two slugging outfielders from the New York Yankees: Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. When all the pitches had been thrown, Maris wound up with 61 round-trippers, breaking Babe Ruth’s longstanding single-season record of 60 set in 1927. Mantle finished the season with 54 home runs. This lot includes an official American League (MacPhail) baseball signed in two different shades of blue ink by both of these sluggers. Mantle’s autograph graces the slightly toned sweet spot, while the Maris signature can be found in the panel just below it. Both signatures are strong and rate 9/10 in our book.
