Even after his playing days were over, Bill “Moose” Skowron kept in close touch with his great friends from Major League Baseball, especially New York Yankees teammate Mickey Mantle. They had forged a friendship that could never be broken. This lot includes a color 8” by 10” photo autographed and personalized by Mickey to Moose showing them clowning around perhaps – judging by Mantle’s pinstriped uniform – prior to the start of a Yankees Old-Timer’s Game. In the photo, Skowron is dressed as a woman with a curly blonde wig, sunglasses and a skirt, and Mantle has a surprised look on his face. The personalization in dark blue Sharpie reads: “To ‘Moosima’ you are the greatest puss I ever saw. Mickey Mantle.” The photo comes framed with special Yankee pinstriped matting and a New York Yankees medallion positioned near the bottom center of the 14” wide by 18” high presentation piece.
