In 2016, New York Yankees backstop Gary Sanchez made his big league debut and then some. He finished his rookie campaign with a .299 batting average, 20 home runs and finished second in a surprisingly close A.L. Rookie of the Year race. The following year marked his first full season in the big leagues, and he set the new club record for home runs by a catcher with 33, breaking Yogi Berra’s longtime record of 30.

This lot features Sanchez’s 2017 Yankees road jersey he donned while launching two of those 33 homers. It is photo-matched by the experts at Resolution Photomatching to the May 16 and May 20 games the rising star backstop nicknamed “The Kraken” went deep. In the first game, Sanchez had two hits against the host Kansas City Royals including a three-run bomb in the third inning to help the Yanks win, 7-1. In the second game, against the Tampa Bay Rays, Sanchez again had two hits, one being a solo home run in the fifth inning of a 9-5 defeat. Sanchez then caught the entire 3-2 Yanks victory over the Rays on May 21 wearing this same jersey, according to MLB Authentication.

This offered gray away jersey has “NEW YORK” across the chest in navy tackle twill outlined in and white. A Majestic size “48” label is sewn in the lower left front tail with a Yankees strip tag sporting a “0000007731” barcode. Each sleeve is trimmed in navy and white ribbing and the back features Sanchez’s uniform number “24” in navy tackle twill outlined in white. The Yankees’ up-and-coming slugger has signed his name in silver pen on the numeral “2” and added “The Kraken” on the number “4.” The jersey shows great game use with slight pine tar stains throughout, most noticeably on the right shoulder where Sanchez no doubt rested his bat. Several loose threads on the lettering are visible and there is a blue ink stain on the back below the number “2”. A true game-worn jersey that’s been photo matched to three games featuring two Sanchez round-trippers.

The jersey comes with COA, hologram and letter from Steiner Sports for the game-use portion and signature, MLB Authentication hologram (#JC195729) for the game use, and LOA from Resolution Photomatching including both Getty full-size images used to make the conclusive photo-matches. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
