Presented here is a classic 8" x 10" Acme Newspictures 1948 Original News Service Type I photo of "rookie" Satchel Paige at the plate with the Cleveland Indians, gazing at a ball that has just left his bat. We say "rookie" tongue in cheek, as those of us know Paige started his pro career in the Negro Leagues 22 (not a typo!) years before.
Nonetheless, this is a wonderful image of Paige in his MLB debut season and refreshing to see him at bat rather than his customary postion on the mound. The reverse of the image has the ACME NEWSPICTURES stamping.
The image is neatly encapsulated in a jumbo PSA/DNA Type I holder. Note there is a very slight crease in the upper left quadrant, but it is frankly difficult to detect and does not detract at all from the pleasing image.
