This stunning example of Mickey Mantle grades a very strong SGC EX 5 featuring a wonderful, colorful pose of #7 with his bat on his shoulder. Is there an image of Mantle on any card better than this? Hard to top the eye appeal and quality of this one!
This is the key to the popular 1959 Bazooka baseball issue. This unnumbered, 23-card set featured some of the game's great players, including Mantle, the most desirable card in the series. Printed on the bottom of bubble gum boxes, these cards are extremely condition sensitive.
The cards were framed by a dotted line to give the collector guidance if they chose to remove the cards from the box. If the blank-backed cards were cut along the lines provided, they would measure approximately 2 13/16" by 4 15/16". The back of the card is blank.
As of this writing, in the SGC Population Report there are only (38) graded examples of the Mantle and only (13) in a 5 or higher. So this card is tough to find in any condition, a rare cardboard treat here in a sharp 5!
