The 1996-97 Topps Chrome is now considered the most outstanding basketball set of the 1990s. This was the initial Topps Chrome set, and it was essentially a Chrome version of the Topps 1996-97 basic set. The set had very poor reception from dealers when it was released so it was only released to retailers. With one of the greatest draft classes of all time in 1996, it's not a surprise that the set shot up in value very quickly after the release. Key draftees from the potential best ever included, Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, Stephen Marbury, Steve Nash, Derek Fisher, Marcus Camby and Jermaine O'Neal and all of them had rookie cards in this set. The obvious key card search is now that of the late great Kobe Bryant who tragically passed away in early 2020. Since his passing, Kobe Memorabilia and trading cards have set records and become the upper echelon for most advanced collectors and investors in the hobby.

This Topps Chrome breakdown shows: 20 packs at four cards per pack for a total of 80 cards. The product also features refractors (220 card parallel set) at a ratio of 1:12 per pack. As for inserts, the Season's Best are 1:16, ProFiles are 1:8, and YouthQuake are 1:12. This 1996-97 Topps Chrome Box set could provide exciting finds. Valuable rookie cards are possible, but not guaranteed. What is guaranteed is the excitement of all the possibilities.
