The colorful interior lid label on this paperboard countertop box pictures Christy Mathewson extolling chewing gum named for his signature pitch. Pioneered by Mathewson, the'fadeaway' pitch is known in the modern era as the screwball. The original hinged glass lid is intact and structurally sound. The box exterior shows some typical moisture, there is also staining to the top of the lid and a few corner joint separations. It includes period baseball shaped gumballs, the style of which were originally issued with the box. In VG-EX/MT condition.
