Offered here is Clyde Lovellette’s 1952 National Sports Award of Merit presented by the Los Angeles times for his outstanding efforts as a college basketball player for the Kansas Jayhawks. Lovellette led the Jayhawks to their first NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship in 1952, finishing with a 28-3 record and placing first in their conference. He led the nation in scoring during the 1951-51 season with 28.6 PPG along with an impressive 14.6 RPG. The award rests in a plastic display and measures 5x4x3. The two-sided medallion reads “Los Angeles Times National Sports Award Presented to Clyde Lovellette College Basketball 1952.” On the reverse side, it reads “Los Angeles Times” and “Award of Merit.” A unique award directly from the Clyde Lovellette Collection. Accompanied by an LOA from the family of Clyde Lovellette.
