Before he was an NCAA star, Olympic medalist and NBA Hall of Famer, Clyde Lovellette was a standout high school player for Terre Haute’s Garfield High. The 6-9 high school junior led Garfield to the state championship game in 1946-47 and capped off his senior year by scoring an average 23.0 points per game and becoming the number 2 vote getter in the Indiana’s “Mr. Basketball” balloting. Lovellette’s high school white home jersey has “EAGLES” across the front chest above his number “14” in purple tackle twill. The neck and arm openings are ringed in purple ribbing and his number “14” is repeated on the back in purple tackle twill. A MacGregor Goldsmith size 44 label is sewn inside the rear tail along with a white washing instruction label. The jersey shows great game use with some light staining on the body and toning from age throughout. Loose threads are found on the graphics and there is some shredding found on the top portion of the “A,” “G” and “L.” The matching white shorts have duel purple striping on the thighs and leg openings. The white integral belt is present as is the size 36 MacGregor Goldsmith label in the waistband. The number “16” (Lovellette’s other high school number) has been handwritten on the waistband in faded black marking pen. The shorts show comparable wear to the jersey, with overall toning from age and some abrasions from use. A great looking uniform set from Clyde Lovellette’s high school career. Accompanied by an LOA from the family of Clyde Lovellette.
