April 27, 1947 was declared "Babe Ruth Day" by commissioner Happy Chandler and celebrated by every organized baseball league in the country. At Yankee Stadium, a cancer ravaged Ruth, barely able to speak, approached the microphones and gave the following brief speech: "Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen. You know how bad my voice sounds? Well, it feels just as bad. You know, this baseball game of ours comes up from the youth. The only real game, I think, in the world, (is) baseball. There's been so many lovely things said about me, and I'm glad that I've had the opportunity to thank everybody. Thank you."

This historic moment is beautifully captured by this Original News Service, original (PSA TYPE 1) wire photograph. The stunning photo is in VG-EX condition with a slight tear in the upper left quadrant and some creases showing throughouth. Encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (84213574).  A prized and highly sought after memento from this extremely important day in history.
