ADDENDUM: There is no reserve on this lot as was initially indicated.

There are no two names in the history of baseball that evoke more reverence than Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Their legends have reached mythical proportions and their faces are woven into the tapestry of Americana immortality. Thus, their stature in the realm of sports memorabilia is similarly unparalleled. Offered here is another fine example of one of the most coveted collectibles in the hobby.

This Official Pacific Coast League ball was dual-signed by the two Yankee teammates in the late 1920s when each was in his "Murderer's Row" prime and the Bronx Bombers were virtually unbeatable. Ruth has commanded the sweet spot as usual, while Gehrig owns the west panel. Babe's delicate signature in blue ink rates 6-7/10 and is perfectly centered in his "reserved" location. Gehrig's autograph has lost almost all of its ink tone, but is still quite legible from the pen indentation on the leather.

The PCL ball, made by Wilson, has a soft creamy color to reaffirm its vintage, and all manufacturer stamps are clearly visible. The stamp of PCL president Harry A. Williams, who served his post 1924-31, and the red and black stitches allow us to accurately date the ball. No shellac or any other protective coating material is present, making it truly genuine for those picky purists. There is some brown toned spots on the VG-EX ball, including one over the 'B' in "Babe." Other than that, the ball's condition holds up well. Early PCL balls are much tougher to find than their OAL or ONL counterparts. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA (AH12853).
