Former football player and Hollywood actor Fred Dryer wore this offered circa 1978 helmet during the latter part of his NFL career with the L.A. Rams. The defensive end had one of his finest seasons in '78, with 51 tackles, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and a blocked kick. Dryer is unique in that he is the only player to ever record two safeties in one game. The New York Giants' 1969 first round draft pick out of San Diego State joined the Rams in 1972 and was First Team All-Pro in '74 and made the Pro Bowl in '75. He finished up his 13-year playing career with the team in 1981. Dryer then began a second career as an action star in Hollywood, including the starring role in the TV series “Hunter”. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Dryer’s circa 1978 season Riddell Pac-3 helmet has the famous Rams horns in yellow with a gray face mask. The white 4-snap button chin strap is intact and the shell shows heavy use. There are countless scuffs and gouges from contact and some clubhouse modifications to the face mask. The interior retains the original Riddell labels, size “7 1/8” tag and a blue stamp label reading “89 DRYER” is still affixed above the left hear hole. The padding shows perspiration staining and wear from use. This tremendous NFL gamer has been photo-matched (Getty 91224017) based on the outer shell contact markings. Sourced from the San Diego Hall of Champions museum collection.
