Mickey Mantle Day was born on June 8, 1969 when the Mick gave his farewell speech during his jersey retirement ceremony in front of a packed house at Yankee Stadium. His number 7 would head up to the rafters, never to be worn by another pinstriped hero again. The commerce comet's 18 year career with the Yankees was stacked with excitement and team success due largely to his otherworldly abilities on the ball field. Mantle's speech had a touching conclusion when he said, "I've oftened wondered how a man who knew he was going to die could stand here and say he was the luckiest man in the world. But now I think I know how Lou Gehrig felt." The crowd roared as Mantle walked off the field for the very last time.

This lot features four autographed photographs of Mantle during his speech and jersey retirement ceremony on June 8, 1969.  Each black and white photo measures 8 x 10 and present in MINT - GEM-MINT condition. The photographs are all autographed in 8-9/10 blue sharpie and have all been pre-certified by Beckett authentication services.
