Offered here is a 1925 St. Louis Cardinals team signed ONL (Heydler) baseball preserved in excellent condition, including Rogers Hornsby from his Triple Crown season. The ball features 25 autographs total signed in black fountain pen. Signatures include Hornsby (HOF), Haines (HOF), Bottomley (HOF), Hafey (HOF), Mails, Douthit, Dickerman, Thevenow, Bell, Rhem (Sweet Spot), Mueller (Sweet Spot), Toporcer (Sweet Spot), Sherdel, Smith, O’Farrell, Shotton (Coach), Dyer, Sothoron, Vick, Warwick, Reinhart, Shinners, Blades (blue fountain pen), and two others (illegible). The name “Kirby Samuels” (possible former owner) is also signed on the base of the sweet spot. “‘25 Cards” is printed on a side panel. The signatures on the ball range from grades 1-9 but average around a 6 or 7. Rogers Hornsby replaced Branch Rickey as the manager of the team after just 38 games in 1925. Hornsby was still able to complete one of his most amazing seasons with the extra pressure of managing the team on top of it this year. Hornsby took home his second Triple Crown with his league-leading batting average of .403, 39 homers, and 143 RBI’s. This example is in extremely good condition considering its age and aside from a few minor blemishes, the ball is in similar condition as it was when it would have received the 25 signatures. This lot is accompanied by a previous "Auction LOA" from JSA and is Beckett Authenticated (Cert #A25826).
