Cap Anson's status as one of the premier pioneer players of the 19th Century is fully recognized. To many, he is the sport's first superstar. And, as with the signatures of many of the games earliest star players, Anson's autograph is both very desirable and seldomly encountered.
This exemplar comes in the form of a single page handwritten letter, completely filled in with Anson's script on both sides. This letter measures 8-1/4" x 10-1/2" in size, has been fully penned in black quill ink, and displays the imprinted letterhead of the City Clerks Office with the city's official seal and Anson's full name and title. Anson letter contains most business related content with the exception of the line, “If the worse comes to worse I could give you a job with me in my business and then if I got a contract for Base Ball at the White City I could use you there providing I could pay you what you were worth.”
The letter maintains a clean, EX appearance with typical fold lines. The text is dark, presenting on average at the "8-9" level; the full signature assesses at the "8-9" level for strength with slight smudging. Includes a full LOA from Beckett Authentication.
