Hosted by Brazil, the 2014 FIFA World Cup was won by Germany (their 4th title) who defeated Argentina, 1-0, in the Final. The host nation finished in fourth after suffering one of their worst ever losses to Germany in the Semifinals, a 7-1 thrashing that also saw Brazil lose star Neymar to a serious back injury. In the third place game, Brazil was shut out, 3-0, by the Netherlands. The unique-looking medal presented here was awarded to an unnamed Brazil National Team player who earned FIFA World Cup Player of the Match honors during the 2014 tournament.

The shield-shaped medal reads “CASTROL” [World Cup Official Sponsor] and “FC” on the face and “CASTROL 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP PLAYER OF THE DAY” on the reverse. The silver-colored medal (weight 116 grams; dimensions 8 cm high, 7 cm wide and 4 mm thick) is looped with a long gray ribbon lanyard and comes essentially Mint with light handling, all housed within its original black holding case. Only three different Brazil players were selected as Budweiser's Man of the Match -- forward Neymar (twice), goalkeeper Julio Cesar, and center back David Luiz -- so it is very likely this Castrol-sponsored award medal was issued to one of them. Includes LOA from the son of a former Brazil National Team kitman (equipment manager).
