Yankee Stadium, AKA "The House That Ruth Built," welcomed back its most celebrated slugger on June 13, 1948, for a ceremony to retire his uniform number. The sold-out crowd cheered, the band played "Auld Lang Syne," and Ruth donned his Yankee pinstripes one last time. This original photo was removed from Babe Ruth's personal scrapbook/album that was given to him by the Yankees shortly after the event. The scrapbook/album was later acquired by famed collector Barry Halper and sold with his collection as part of the landmark 1999 Sotheby's auction. The 8" by 10" photo features a poignant image of Ruth seated in front of his Yankee Stadium locker removing his beloved pinstripes forever more.  EX condition overall with five spots of album page paper glued to the reverse.
