Following Hugh Duffy’s playing retirement in 1906, the gifted hitter remained in baseball until his passing in 1954. Most recently, he served as General Manager for the Red Sox, and it was in that capacity that he signed this typewritten one-page letter. It's a simple message (addressed to Walter Mulbry, Secretary-Treasurer in the Chandler Administration) explaining a check to be forwarded to the PCL's Seattle Club. The medium is translucent onion-skin with a small block-form letterhead, "Boston American League Base Ball Co. 1949." The typed letter is utterly flawless; the Hugh Duffy signature is perfectly "10" in every respect; and the stationery, forgiving minor staple damage in the extreme upper left, is EX/MT. Pre-certified by PSA DNA.
