Outstanding copy of the 1911 book "America's National Game" signed and inscribed by the author, 1939 Hall of Fame inductee A. J. Spalding. Spalding was one of the first pitching super stars of the game, first in the National Association, and then, in 1876 as a 42-game winner for the first Champions of the newly formed National League, the Chicago Cubs. He would later become owner of the Cubs and along with his brother develop one of the largest sporting goods companies in the world which is still in business today. Inside first fly-leaf page is signed in dark, 9/10 looking vintage black ink, "To my cousin Henry B. Warner who was my early ideal of a ball player with my compliments and Christmas Greetings. A. G. Spalding Point Loma Calif. Dec. 25th, 1911". Adding to the books great lineage is a note held inside a small envelope affixed to the inside front cover written by the widow of the books original recipient. The enveloped is marked, “Hon. K.M. Landis.” The note inside reads, “To Judge K.M. Landis, Mr. Warner felt that base ball was saved only by your appointment. Please accept this with my compliments – Julie Warner.” Book itself in very good shape with clean cover and inside pages. Incredible signed piece of baseball history linking two of the game’s most influential figures. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (AG01594).
