In 1990, the San Francisco 49ers looked to become the first team in the Super Bowl era to three-peat. For Joe Montana, it would be a bittersweet campaign. On the one hand, the Hall of Fame QB threw for a career-high 3,944 yards and led the Niners to a 14-2 record (Joe went 14-1) and the #1 overall seed in the playoffs. On the other hand, there was no fairy tale ending. A heartbreaking loss in the NFC Championship to the Giants was exacerbated by the fact that Joe suffered a severe elbow injury in the game that would ultimately end his legendary run in the City by the Bay. Montana missed the next two seasons -- except for one half against the Lions in '92 -- and would finish his career in Kansas City. The New Eagle, PA-native and Notre Dame alum retired after the '94 season, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.

Presented here is Montana's game-worn home jersey from his final season as a Niner. The red mesh jersey has Montana’s number “16” sewn on the chest, back, and shoulders in white tackle twill. “MONTANA” is sewn across the back shoulders in white tackle twill over a matching red nameplate. Three white stripes are screen-printed on each sleeve. A red Wilson logo patch is sewn on the left sleeve. Proper Wilson tagging is found on the left front shirttail with a size “46” flag tag. Montana has signed the “1” digit on the back in blue marker. The jersey shows obvious usage including light soiling on the back numbers, a few contact marks and paint transfers, light fraying and moderate puckering. Comes with LOA from Sports Investors along with LOA from the son of Neal Dahlen, a longtime NFL executive (with 7 SB rings) who worked for the 49ers (1979-96) before joining the Denver Broncos and becoming the team's General Manager. Includes PSA/DNA cert. sticker (Y64760) for autograph.
