Renowned sports photographer Don Wingfield was a prodigious producer of famous photographs that found their way into popular culture via 1950s-1960s Topps baseball cards, The Sporting News, Look Magazine and other notable publications. The offered Wingfield image is one of the finest pre-Yankee Type I photos of Roger Maris we’ve ever seen. The 8” by 10” black and white press photo captures the young Maris as a member of the Kansas City Athletics. Wingfield’s stamp appears on back as does a date stamp, “JUL 1958.” A small crease at the tip of the bottom left corner, otherwise NM.
