On a team with such superstars as Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford, it was Yogi Berra who won an astonishing three MVP Awards during the decade of the 1950’s (1951,1954 and 1955). Presented here is Yogi’s Hillerich & Bradsby R43 professional model bat from the 1955-59 period. The bat shows heavy use with a handle crack and a severely chipped knob. The bat has suffered due to likely post-player use and poor storage. The original finish has worn off in large areas and the back barrel has significant grain separation and deterioration from moisture. Positive attributes include pronounce manufacturer’s stampings and the model number “R43” clearly stamped into the knob. A good candidate for refurbishment.
