A month after Lou Gehrig succumbed to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) at age 37, a memorial was held on July 4, 1941 at Yankee Stadium to honor the beloved "Iron Horse" and dedicate a monument to him in Memorial Park. Located behind center field of the stadium, his became the second to be erected, joining the one in place for former manager Miller Huggins. (Babe Ruth would follow in 1949.) This offered stub to the historic event is a terrific example, containing quite straight edges and fairly sharp corners. The green remains vibrant and the print crisp on the front. The only real blemish is an insignificant corner wrinkle on the back that is not visible from the front, allowing it to have great eye appeal overall and come in at EX overall condition. If graded, we feel confident it should attain at least a VG-EX 4 rating. A wonderful piece of history celebrating the life of one of the greatest to ever play the game.
