Forever imposing with the bat, Lou Gehrig was less successful wielding the more primitive club in this photograph. Shortly after the end of his playing career Gehrig attempted to parlay his strength on the silver screen. Originally cast as the lead for Sol Lesser's production of "Tarzan's Revenge," Gehrig was passed by in favor of one Glenn Morris—a former Olympic athlete who, like Gehrig, should have stuck to sports. Offered here is a sepia toned WIDE WORLD STUDIO news service photograph depicting the Iron Horse during his brief attempt at Hollywood stardom. This 7-1/4" by 9" photo features Gehrig clad in leopard-skin short shorts with club in hand. Reverse shows WIDE WORLD STUDIO stamp, and pencil written notations. VG-EX condition.
