Before those dynasties that dominated the world of baseball, which ultimately won 40 pennants and 27 World Championships, the New York Yankees were the "other team" in New York. From 1901 to 1919, it was the Giants who were the cream of New York's baseball crop. But the Yanks were there, biding their time, unconsciously waiting for Boston to make a regrettable deal that would propel them to glory and cast Boston into a spell of misery for nearly a century. This is an exquisite 10" by 13" original professional photograph of the 1916 Yankees team exhibiting sharp contrast and clarity. Pictured are Home Run Baker, Wild Bill Donovan, (manager who would also play in one game), Wally Pipp, Roger Peckinpaugh, Urban Shocker and Bob Shawkey. A raised Brown Brothers photographers seal appears in the corner. A few minor bumps and wrinkles, but visual quality is magnificent. Excellent condition.
