George Sosnak (1924-1992) was a self-taught artist who devoted his life to the game of baseball as a fan, player and minor league umpire. His hand-painted baseballs, however, are the work he's best known for. Sosnak’s creations have been displayed in such museums as the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY and at the American Folk Museum in NYC. This Sosnak masterpiece commemorates the 1921 World Series and honors “FIRST WORLD SERIES AIRCASTER WRITER GRANTLAND RICE.” All of the hallmarks of Sosnak's work are resplendent here, from the colorful imagery and caricatures to the meticulous documentation. Complete statistics for both series combatants (Yankees and Giants) occupy two side panels along with a stunningly detailed historical account of the 1921 World Series and a biographical tribute to Rice. The ball's condition is perfect with vibrant color and minimal chipping. A classic example of Sosnak's artistry. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (AG03991).
