The 1939 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium was won by the American League 3-1, with six New York Yankees in the starting lineup. Hometown hero Joe DiMaggio hit the only home run in the game, and Cleveland's young Bob Feller shut out the National Leaguers over the final three innings. "Stars American League 1940" is printed in black ink in an unknown hand across the top of a panel with erroneous dating. The creamy-toned and moderately soiled OAL (Harridge) ball is loaded with 31 black penned signatures that range from "1-6" averaging 4/10. Hall of Famers are Foxx, Joe DiMaggio, Dickey, Appling, Ruffing (SS), Gomez, Grove, Feller, Greenberg, Gordon, Lyons, Cronin and Gehringer. Selkirk, Hoag, Rolfe, Fletcher, Keller, Dykes and others are also present. The autographs of Lou Gehrig and Joe McCarthy are deemed clubhouse. The inscription "STARS AMERICAN LEAGUE 1940" with erroneous date is done in an unknown hand. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
