On September 24, 1961, one week before he hit number 61, Roger Maris and the Yankees were in Boston playing the Red Sox. Maris’ home run total was stalled at 59, and he’d been homer-less since September 20. Not wanting to give up number 60, Red Sox pitcher Bill Monbouquette walked Maris once and relinquished a harmless single in three at bats. That Sunday it was Moose Skowron who went deep for New York, the only run scored by the Yanks in their 3-1 loss to Boston. Maris would hit his 60th big fly in his next game and reach the iconic number 61 on October 1.

Offered here is the program and ticket stub from the September 24 game at Boston. The scorecard page inside the program is autographed by both Roger Maris and Yogi Berra in 6-7/10 black pen. The scorecard is in EX-MT condition with the game neatly scored in pencil. The relatively large Maris and Berra’s signatures have been nicely preserved inside the scorecard. A very attractive piece signed by two Yankee legends during one of the most exciting seasons in baseball history by its biggest star.

Full LOA from JSA. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
