Featured here is a highly coveted New York Football Giants
Super Bowl XXI ring celebrating the franchise's first
championship in the Super Bowl era. Down 10-9 to the Denver Broncos at halftime, the G-Men erupted
for 30 second-half points behind the uber-efficient QB play of Phil Simms,
who was
named MVP after going 22-for-25 passing with 268 yards and three TD's.
His 88% completion percentage set a Super Bowl and postseason record.
Of course Lawrence Taylor terrorizing John Elway on defense certainly didn't hurt the cause. This particular 10-karat gold ring, identical to those earned on the field by
Simms, LT and company, was presented to longtime team trainer John Dziegiel, whose 30-year tenure to that point went back to the Giants' last NFL title in 1956.
The
Lombardi Trophy depicted on the face is comprised of ten genuine
diamonds, including a very large diamond stone as the figural football, set
into a
large blue sapphire stone surrounded by raised text touting, "1986
Giants
World Champions." The left shank displays the recipient's surname above a
figural helmet and the season record, including the three
postseason victories. The right shank reports the "39-20" final score
along with the NFC and Super Bowl XXI logos, plus another nod to Vince
Lombardi's eponymous award. Interior
band is stamped "10K Jostens" is stamped inside the band along with the
engravings of "John Dziegiel" and the "1-25-87" date of the Super Bowl.
Ring size is 12 and weight is 48 grams. It comes with its original
wooden presentation box appropriately labeled outside and in for the
recipient. The ring shows very little wear and presents
essentially mint. The box is NM-MT. What an important and extremely rare
championship memento from one of the most
popular franchise's in all of football.
