Addendum: Description has been updated with more info on how it was dated.

Featured here is an early 1900's turn-of-the-century transitional "basket ball"--one of the earliest known examples. What appears to be a soccer or volleyball ball is clearly marked "BASKET BALL" on two opposing sides of the ball. Although the maker remains a mystery, the ball most likely dates to 1900-10 for multiple reasons. The stampings do not fluoresce under a black light. In addition, the manner in which the leather panels are constructed and the lack of valve holes and internal bladder, which were initiated in the 1920's, provide further dating evidence. The ball exhibits the appropriate level of use and aging of an antique that is over a century old. This is a certainly one-of-a-kind artifact and a must-have for the serious vintage basketball equipment collector.
