When Allie May Schmidt created the now famous "Bird-on-Bat" design for a Cardinals banquet in 1921, one of sports' most recognizable logos was born. The St. Louis Cardinals have used this simple but endearing design more or less consistently since then, and it is only natural that the Bird-on-Bat would be used for such a classy team lapel pin. This piece, of which it is the only known example, was made for and worn by the Cards' unofficial team dentist through the team’s great dynasty years in the 1940’s. The 14K pin boasts a diamond-studded ball, gold bat (3 cm long) and red cardinal with a larger diamond for an eye. The pin has a mounting system on the back with a "14K" hallmark. The piece exhibits very little wear and displays wonderfully with the cool diamond fittings contrasting with the warm patina of the gold.

Includes LOA from the family of the St. Louis Cardinals' team dentist in the 1940's and 50's.
