From the personal collection Ty Cobb's former Detroit Tigers teammate, Ossie Vitt, comes this nice pair of Georgia Peach memorabilia items. The first is his more commonly found "Science of Batting" booklet, printed in 1944 by renowned bat maker Hillerich & Bradsby. The 10-page 4x7-inch pocket size guide provides many of Cobb's key batting tips that helped him become arguably the greatest pure hitter ever. Sections include "Selection of Bat and Where to Grip"; "Position of Body"; "Position of Feed--Balance--Adjusting Stance--for Hitting to All Fields"; "Where to Stand"; and "Position of Arms". The booklet comes in EX condition with some soiling on the cover featuring a 1928 image of Cobb.
The second item is much more personal, one of Ty Cobb's early 1950's Christmas cards mailed to family and friends. The undated card is not signed either. The image on the front appears to be Cobb's second wife, Frances, in
front of his Bay Area home in Menlo Park, CA. That marriage lasted 1949-56. Printed on the inside is "Best Wishes - For Christmas - And Every Day of the New Year - Mr. and Mrs. Tyrus R. Cobb." The 5.5" by 4.25" card folds out in four sections.
Includes LOA from Ossie Vitt's grandson.
