Called up three weeks into the 2018 season, Gleyber Torres was not about to waste his first big-league opportunity. When the Yankees showed up to play the Texas Rangers on May 21, the 21-year-old Venezuelan – barely a month into his rookie season – was batting a terrific .317 with four homers and 15 driven in.  By the time the uber-talented middle infielder had left Arlington Stadium three days later, his stat line read .330, 9 HR and 22 RBI. Torres homered in each game of the 3-game series, including a pair of 400-foot blasts in the opener off Bartolo Colon to lead the Bronx Bombers to a 10-5 victory. Torres became the youngest Yankee to ever homer in three straight games, and he did so wearing this very road jersey each game. When it was all said and done in 2018, Gleyber had hit 24 long balls to go along with 77 ribbies and a solid .270 average (.340 OBP). He finished third in the A.L. Rookie of the Year race, one spot behind his teammate Miguel Andujar.

The Yankees road gray jersey has “NEW YORK” across the front in navy and white tackle twill with Majestic size 44 tagging in the lower left front tail and a Yankees team bar code label below. The back has the rising star’s No. “25” in navy and white tackle twill. The jersey shows moderate wear with light puckering, pilling and fraying to the fabric. A fantastic rookie gamer from one of the best demonstrations of power ever performed in a Yankee uniform, it sold in August for just under $12,000.

Torres would homer for the fourth straight game on May 24 against the Angels, becoming the youngest to ever do so in American League history! According to the MLB database and the accompanying paperwork by Steiner Sports, Torres wore this on May 21 and May 23. However, from what we know about how the league authentication system processes and documents game jerseys, we can only conclude that he also wore it May 22. Even today it is common for players to wear the same jersey three days in a row, having it laundered in between. We were not able to make a 100% conclusive photo-match from the limited game images available online, but there is certainly enough evidence from the two photos attached to call this the same record-setting jersey he wore the entire Rangers series.
