Interesting multi-signed baseball from key
members of the cast of the 1942 classic Lou Gehrig biographical movie,
"The Pride of the Yankees." The sweet spot of the Spalding Official
League baseball is printed "ROY MILTON" (gift recipient whose role in making the film is unknown) and signed below "With
appreciation Eleanor Gehrig" in bold black pen. The panel below has been signed by Yankee greats Babe Ruth (4-5/10) and Bill Dickey, as well as actor Gary Cooper, who
portrayed Gehrig in the film. On the panel to the right of the sweet
spot is Director Sam Wood and Producer Sam Goldwyn. On the
panel to the left is co-star Walter Brennan and former MLB journeyman, Babe
Herman, who doubled for Cooper in long shots and served as technical
adviser. The ball has toned fairly evenly over the years and has a
few noticeable scuffs, but nothing that obscured the autographs. It is mounted on a rocker-style ink blotter with the stenciled lettering of
Ruth and Gehrig's famed super-agent: "Compliments of Christy Walsh -
'The Pride of the Yankees.'"Wonderful display piece.
