The white letter variations are exceedingly rare in 1969 Topps. They are really a printing error as a result of someone at the factory forgetting to add color to the plates on 23 cards from numbers 440-511, leaving the block letters of the players name in white instead of yellow. These 23 cards are quite scarce with Mantle, of course, being the most desired of these rarities. Finding any Mantle “white letter” example is exciting, but finding a signed specimen is truly special.
Mickey Mantle signed this example of his 1969 Topps #500 “Last name in White” variation card in dark blue ballpoint on the front. The signature rates 8/10 while the card itself is technically VG due primarily to light surface wear and small creases. The overall aesthetic quality remains quite strong. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA and labeled "AUTHENTIC" for the autograph.
