One of the rarest Topps issues of the 1960s, this 35 card set was actually issued in lieu of a program for the annual Topps Rookie All-Star Banquet held at New York’s Waldorf Astoria hotel. Starting in 1959, Topps sponsored a formal postseason banquet to honor its annual all-star rookie team. Through 1963, those banquets featured a traditional fold-out program, however in 1964 Topps created this specially boxed card set instead. The offered set comes in its original display box (EX-MT). The set is highlighted by card #12, picturing Pete Rose on the 1963 Rookie All-Star team. This card is generally considered the most difficult of all Pete Rose cards. Other highlights include #19 Richie Allen, 25 Tony Conigliaro, 27 Tony Oliva, 34 Luis Tiant, etc. Set grades NRMT to NM-MT with the #12 Rose PSA graded 6 EX-MT. A very unique and seldom seen offering.
