The late. great Muhammad Ali served as the “anchorman” on the famous torch-lighting ceremony at the start of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. The heartfelt image of him holding up the torch to light the Olympic flame, arms shaking ever so slightly from the effects of Parkinson's, is forever etched in the mind of every human who witnessed that magical event or watched it on television. This lot features an unused Atlanta Olympic torch signed by the Greatest of All Time, honoring one of his greatest moments in or outside the boxing ring.

The Centennial torch consists of 22 aluminum reeds, one representing each of the 22 Olympic Games held to that point. The center handle is made of Georgia hardwood, either pecan or hickory, with two gold-plated brass bands separating it from the reeds. The names of each host city are etched on a gold band near the torch base. Another band above the wood center has the Atlanta Games logo and Quilt of Leaves. At 32 inches high, this is the tallest torch for a Summer Olympic Games. Its diameter varies from 2 1/4 inches at the bottom to 3 1/2 inches at the top. Ali has autographed the hardwood area in 9/10 black felt marker. The torch presents in essentially brand new, pristine condition.

Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
