The Manassa Mauler was the world heavyweight champ from 1919 to 1926, and during the Roaring 20’s was as much a cultural icon as Babe Ruth and Charles Lindbergh. His fights broke all records for both attendance and purse, and his 1921 fight against Carpentier was the first to break the one-million dollar gate. Even after he retired Dempsey was a popular figure, owning several restaurants including the famed “Dempsey’s” in Manhattan. Though he was universally known as “Jack”, the champ was actually born William Harrison Dempsey and this signed page features both his given and popular names. The 8” x 13” legal document concerns a real estate transaction in Utah and is dated May 21, 1971, the former champ has signed the document using his full name of “William Harrison Dempsey” and below “Better Known as Jack Dempsey”. Both are in sharp blue ball point and have been wonderfully preserved due to its being protected in a file for decades. A great opportunity to obtain the full and better known signatures of Jack Dempsey. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
