George Halas was the founder, owner and first head coach of the Chicago Bears. He is also considered by many to be one of the original co-founders of the NFL. Halas led the Bears to six NFL titles and his 324 victories are still the most in team history. The George Halas Trophy was awarded to the NFC champion every year from 1984 to 2010.
This lot features a Jan. 12, 1997, George S. Halas Replica Trophy honoring the NFC Champion Green Bay Packers. In this year’s NFC title game, the Packers defeated the Panthers 30-13. The impressive trophy, which measures 15” wide by nine inches tall and weighs 14 pounds, features a gold-plated top that includes semi-circular sculpture of football players battling behind the NFC logo. Its wooden base boasts two specially engraved plaques that read: “GEORGE S. HALAS TROPHY” and “1997 CHAMPION OF THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL CONFERENCE Green BAY PACKERS,” with additional statistics on the game (“30-13”) and the date of the game (“January 12, 1997, Green Bay, Wisconsin”). An impressive piece of NFL hardware that would certainly make a proud statement displayed amongst any football collection, especially that of a Green Bay Packers fan.
