The great Joe Namath had one of the most colorful careers in NFL history. After playing his first 12 years (1965 to 1976) in the league in the Big Apple, lining up behind center for the New York Jets, "Broadway Joe" Namath played one more season but this time it was for the Los Angeles Rams in the City of Angels. Namath started just four games for the Rams in 1977 and went 2-2. He completed 50 of
107 pass attempts for 606 yards and three touchdowns. Then it was time for "Joe Willie" to hang up his cleats.
This lot features one of Namath's autographed and game-worn L.A. Rams jerseys. The size 48 white mesh jersey includes proper Medalist Sand-Knit tagging on the lower left front tail ("Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Los Angeles Rams National Football Conference") including washing instructions. The front of the V-neck jersey is sporting Namath's trademark uniform number "12" heat-pressed in blue numerals stretching 9.5" tall. Either yellow mesh sleeve is tailored with the Ram's blue horn wrapping itself around Namath's number "12" which is again heat-pressed onto the jersey. On the reverse, a white mesh nameplate is sewn directly across the shoulders of the jersey with "NAMATH" spelled out in blue heat-pressed letters. His number "12" adorns the back in large, 11.75" heat-pressed blue numerals. The jersey, which Namath signed on the back in black marker, shows minimal wear. Namath added "X12" underneath his signature, which has faded dramatically over the years but remains legible. A great piece of game-worn gridiron memorabilia from one of the most-talked-about QBs in league history.
