John Mackey, the NFL's 1963 Rookie of the Year, was a fullback dressed in tight end's clothing. Regarded as one of the best tight ends in NFL history, Mackey scored 38 touchdowns and caught 331 passes for 5,236 yards during his 10-year NFL career. He was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and a member of the NFL's 50th Anniversary All-Time team, and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992. He is named for the John Mackey Award given to college football's best tight end.

This lot features Mackey's NFL Players Association ring from the 1970's. The beautifully designed 10K gold ring (size 10.5) boasts "NFL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION" in raised relief on the top positioned around a large CZ and a raised "NFL" on the face. One shank boasts a football field and reads "MACKEY" and "88" [reflecting his uniform number] on a raised football helmet, while the other shank includes an eagle and "NFL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION." The interior band is engraved with "Herff Jones HK 10K" to reflect the manufacturer. Shows minor wear and comes in wonderful overall condition.
