These two awards honor two distinct attributes of George Blanda’s career: Durability and reliability. The durability is recognized by his being named “The Player of the Decade” - the only problem is which decade? George Blanda is one of only two pro players to appear in four different decades, and an argument could be made for any of them! The Player of the Decade Award is an attractive 3-dimensional engraved scroll reading “PRESENTED TO GEORGE BLANDA BY THE 5TH QUARTER CLUB  JOHNSON CITY, TENNESSEE  DECEMBER 13, 1976”. The scroll is mounted on a 10” x 12 1/2” wooden base. The award shows only slight surface wear from age. In the last half of the 1970 season it seemed as if George Blanda was the only thing keeping Oakland in the race. Every weekend the 43 year-old veteran would snatch victory from defeat with a last minute placekick or a final seconds touchdown toss. No player deserved the distinction of “Clutch Player of the Year” than Blanda did in 1970. Blanda’s Clutch Player of the Year Award is a cast scroll on which a brass plaque engraved with “ST. BONAVENTURE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION BINGHAMTON CHAPTER AWARD  GEORGE BLANDA MARCH 29, 1971” is affixed. The scroll is mounted on an 11” x 15” wooden base. The award shows just slight surface wear from age. LOA from the Blanda Family.
