Every year since 1937 the Touchdown Club of Washington, D.C. has awarded their “Timmie Award” to the pro and amateur players who excelled in the game. With more than two decades of resilience and triumph behind him, it was only fitting that Oakland’s George Blanda was the recipient of a Timmie. The quaint award features a 10” tall silvered statuette of a young football player charging forward with a touchdown. The 7 1/2” x 7 1/2” x 6 1/2” wooden base has the silver logo of the Washington, D.C. Touchdown Club above an engraved plaque with “OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN FOOTBALL”. A smaller plaque below reads “GEORGE BLANDA OAKLAND RAIDERS”. Although we do not know which year the Timmie was awarded, looking back a George Blanda’s career, any year could have been an “outstanding performance. Weighting 10.6 lbs., the award shows light wear from display and age, mostly in the metal top of the wooden base. LOA from the Blanda Family.
