After his phoenix-from-the-ashes 1970 season in which George Blanda went from being cut in the pre-season to become the man who kicked and threw Oakland to the championship game, the 43 year-old star spent the off-season reaping his just rewards. Among those honors was the Player of the Year Award from Miami’s Touchdown Club. The 15 1/2” tall award consists of a full-size silver football mounted on an 8 1/2” x 8 1/2” x 5” wood base. The front features an engraved plaque that reads “MIAMI TOUCHDOWN CLUB HONORS GEORGE BLANDA PROFESSIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR 1970”. The silver football shows some tarnishing and surface wear from age and the wooden base has some scuffs. The right front bottom corner has been slightly jammed/cracked. The base still has the original Michelson’s Trophies sticker affixed. Weighting 5.6 lbs., this is a fitting tribute to George Blanda’s most improbable season. LOA from the Blanda Family.
